Tipselit widley represented in Swedish World Cup squad

There were no entries from Allsvenskan in the Swedish squad for this summer FIFA World Cup. However, there are plenty of players with origin in Swedish youth development program Tipselit. A total of 17 players in the squad for Russia have in some way passed through Swedish elite preparatory activities, which is a clear majority of all the players in the squad.

Every season the Tipselit annual certification system each and every of the 62 member clubs with points based on how many of the elite players of today who in their youth passed through the club for at least one season. 17 out of 23 players in the Swedish World Cup squad have obtained points for their club in the certification system, which means they got their elite training in a club connected to the Tipselit network.

There is four players in the squad from Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna. All four of them, Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Ludwig Augustinsson, Albin Ekdal and John Guidetti, started to play football in ”BP” and were spending their entire youth in the club. IF Elfsborg (Oscar Hiljemark and Marcus Rohdén) and IFK Göteborg (Marcus Berg and Gustav Svensson) both have two players each in the squad.

Robin Olsen, Mikael Lustig, Martin Olsson and Sebastian Larsson are all among the non-Certified players. They either left Sweden at an early age or they did not play for enough time in a Tipselit club for the club to be able to get points in the Certification system. The youth clubs of Viktor Nilsson Lindelöf (Västerås SK) and Isaac Kiese Thelin (Karlslund IF) are today included in Tipselit, but did not used to be when both players were in each academy, and neither Lindelöf nor Kiese Thelin are therefore counted as a Tipselit player.

Sweden is in the World Cup group stage set against South Korea (18/6), Germany (23/6) and Mexico (27/6).
