Superettan turns 25. Two anniversary rounds, celebrating a quarter-century of football in the league, has been completed.
“We are very pleased with both the 25-year celebration and the extra attention. Superettan truly deserves it—a league filled with passion, excitement, drama, and joy,” says Robert Johansson, Head of Communications at Swedish Professional Football Leagues and responsible for Superettan 25 Years.
25,022 people, an average of 3,127 spectators per match, attended the first round of anniversary matches for Superettan 25 Years. The second anniversary round was seen by a total of 17,543 spectators, giving an average of 2,506 spectators per match. The match between Örgryte IS and Helsingborgs IF in round 14 was attended by 5,614 people.
In total, this means that 48,179 stadium visits were made during the two anniversary rounds of Superettan, with an average of 3,011 spectators per match.

“They were two successful anniversary rounds filled with fan celebrations and exciting matches. Just as it should be in Superettan,” says Ola Rydén, League Manager at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.
Each match was preceded by a ceremony where the clubs received a diploma for their participation in the league, handed out by a representative from Swedish Professional Football Leagues.
During the first anniversary round, clubs took the opportunity to enhance the events with their own initiatives—for example, Varbergs BoIS celebrated their 100th anniversary, and Umeå FC played in retro jerseys and invited the 2000 player squad to the match.
There was also an “original matchup” between two of the five founding clubs from the very first Superettan season in 2000: Kalmar FF and Landskrona BoIS. In the second anniversary round, Västerås SK and IK Brage met—also an original matchup. The fifth club that was part of Superettan in 2000 is Umeå FC.
The other clubs also took the opportunity to get involved and highlight Sweden’s second tier in the best possible way.
