This year’s premiere round of Allsvenskan and Superettan attracted large audiences to the stadiums. A total of 141,000 watched the matches on site as spectators. An increase of 30,000 spectators (27%) compared to the 2022 season premiere.
“Close to 150,000 people went out into the fine spring weather to visit our stadiums. It is enormously gratifying. It was exactly the season premiere we wanted”, says Ola Rydén, league manager at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.

This year’s total of 141,000 spectators is an increase of 30,000 spectators compared to the 2022 premiere, which was seen by a total of 111,000 spectators. The Allsvenskan this year accounted for 118,965 of these (98,000 last year) and the Superettan for 22,035 (13,000).

The largest crowd was seen in Stockholm when Hammarby defeated Degerfors IF in their home opener. A total of 30,941 spectators watched the match at Tele 2 Arena in Stockholm. 22,273 spectators saw Djurgårdens IF at home against IF Brommapojkarna and 21,312 witnessed Malmö FF against Kalmar FF. Notably, Halmstad’s BK had over 10,000 spectators for the first time in 15 years.

“Swedish football stands up very strongly in the competition. We already know that we are the most popular sport in Sweden and that the Allsvenskan is the most popular league in the country. Behind this lays hard long-term work. None of this would have been possible without our fans, with the commitment, the passion they put in and the image they create of our leagues”, says Ola Rydén.

The Superettan’s audience figure is an increase of around 8,000 people compared to 2022. The match between Helsingborgs IF and Östers IF attracted the largest number of spectators, 8,717.

“We’ll see how it looks after round two, when all clubs have played at home, but I think even after the next round we’re clearly above last year’s numbers”, concludes Ola Rydén.
