Over 260,000 spectators attended the home openers in Allsvenskan and Superettan. A total of 261,385 fans watched the first two rounds of matches live, marking a significant increase compared to last year’s 240,021 during the same period.
“It is fantastic to see Swedes turning out in such large numbers every year to support their favorite teams in person at Allsvenskan and Superettan matches. We’ve had two amazing opening weekends where football has been the main focus almost the entire time,” says Ola Rydén, League Manager at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.

Attendance records continue to be broken in Swedish football. This year’s 261,385 spectators for Allsvenskan and Superettan surpass the “modern record” set in 2017, when 257,420 attended games during the first two rounds. In total, 209,863 attended the first two rounds of Allsvenskan, a 5.2% increase from last year’s 199,253 at the same time, giving an average of 13,116 spectators per match. The 25-year-celebrating Superettan drew 51,522 spectators, a 25% increase from last year’s 40,768, averaging 3,220 per match.

The 2025 season opener is off to a strong start, aiming to surpass the record-breaking 2024 season, which saw a total of 3,192,519 stadium visits. That marked the second consecutive season that the two leagues combined attracted over three million spectators. Additionally, Allsvenskan set a new average attendance record for a 16-team league, reaching 10,786 per match.

“We continue to grow every year, and it’s something to be proud of. Right now, we’re breaking attendance records annually, and we hope the opening numbers this year show we’re on track to do it again. It’s especially exciting to see Superettan, in its 25th year, growing so much,” says Ola Rydén.

  • AIK holds the highest attendance to date, with 38,525 fans at their high-scoring home opener against IFK Norrköping.

“There’s a real buzz around being at the stadium — it’s become an event people don’t want to miss. It’s clear more and more players are choosing Allsvenskan not just for the incredible atmosphere, but also because of the high sporting quality. Credit to everyone helping develop these events and to our fans for the amazing atmosphere they create,” Rydén adds.

As in previous years, clubs will be rewarded for their attendance efforts throughout the season through Unibet’s ‘Publikstödet’ (Fan Support) initiative. The goal is to support what matters most in Swedish football — fan engagement. A total of 20 million SEK will be distributed among clubs, with no club receiving less than 200,000 SEK.
