The board of Swedish Professional Football Leagues (Svensk Elitfotboll, SEF) has appointed Henrik Berggren as the new Secretary General. His task will be to lead the 32 top-tier football clubs into the future.

Henrik Berggren has a solid background in Swedish sports organizations, with nearly 25 years at Djurgården Football in roles such as Chief Financial Officer and, for the past 12 years, as Club Director. He is also Vice Chairman of the SEF board. With extensive experience in leadership, organizational development, and a strong commitment to Swedish football, Henrik Berggren will now assume operational responsibility for SEF’s continued efforts to strengthen Allsvenskan and Superettan—both athletically and commercially.

“Swedish Professional Football Leagues holds a unique position in society, and I’m very much looking forward to working with the clubs, the board, our partners, and all employees to continue developing Swedish football. I feel happy, honored, and humbled by the appointment, and I’m grateful for the trust placed in me,” says Henrik Berggren.

SEF Chairman Jens T Andersson comments on the appointment:

“Henrik Berggren has the experience and leadership we need to take the next step in our development. We are confident that he will contribute to strengthening Swedish professional football at all levels.”

Henrik Berggren will assume the role of Secretary General during the fall. In the meantime, Lena Engström will continue as acting Secretary General.

Swedish Professional Football Leagues (SEF) brings together the 32 clubs in Allsvenskan and Superettan and works to develop Swedish professional football, create social value, and enhance the competitiveness of the clubs both nationally and internationally.
