2.75 million people watched the Allsvenskan and Superettan games

The 2022 season was witnessed by 2,754,178 visitors at the stadiums of Allsvenskan and Superettan. A strong attendance that can only be topped by the record year 2015 by the smallest possible margin.

“We have had a great attendance this year. The interest has been at its top after the pandemic. We almost beat our total attendance record for Allsvenskan and Superettan together but the 2015 record of 2,781,702 visitors still stands”, says Ola Rydén, league manager at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.

Even though there was no total attendance record in 2022, there still was a large increase in attendance compared to the 2019 season (the last with an audience, before the pandemic). A total of 2,754,178 visitors saw the 2022 season in place at the arenas, in Allsvenskan and Superettan together. An increase of almost 200,000 spectators compared to 2019’s 2,587,790 visitors.

The Allsvenskan increases its attendance by almost 9% compared to 2019. A total of 2,389,995 people saw matches in Allsvenskan on site in the arenas in 2022. On average, this means 9,958 spectators per match in Allsvenskan.

“Allsvenskan is a strong brand. We see that especially clearly this year when so many choose to watch the league in place at the arena despite concerns in advance about changed lifestyles of many because of covid”, says Ola Rydén and continues.

“We have several clubs that improved their attendance figures significantly this year. The clubs have done a great job with ticket sales and with welcoming the audience back to the arenas.”

In Superettan, the attendance decreases slightly. The total audience for the year is 364,183 people. The average per match is 1517 people.
