The Swedish Security Service’s decision to raise the security threat level from 3 (Elevated) to 4 (High) also has consequences for football in Sweden. For Allsvenskan and Superettan this may result in an increased level of security checks at the games.

Swedish Professional Football Leagues has had an ongoing dialogue with Swedish authorities for a long time regarding the security situation in Sweden and are prepared for potential actions. The clubs have been handed the same information.

“In the short term, we are focusing on increased security checks at the matches such as increased visitation, closing certain areas in connection with matches, possible bag restrictions, increased use of the stadiums camera surveillance systems and increased checks of vehicles coming and going to the stadiums”, says Per Eliasson, Head of security questions at Swedish Professional Football Leagues.

Further discussions with Swedish authorities will take place before any actions are taken by Swedish Professional Football Leagues.
