This years choice was easy when DHL Express the Presenting Partner of Allsvenskan was going to do their annual volunteer day. A few of the thousands of people who work voluntarily at matches in Allsvenskan every year would get a surprise they hopefully would never forget.
“We wanted to do something for all the enthusiasts who work hard for the club in their spare time”, says Ann Berglund, Communications Manager at DHL Express.
Swedish sports are in many ways dependent on non-profit efforts. There are about 600,000 people in Sweden who works on a free basis within sports, and at Swedish Allsvenskan game there are usually around 100 non-profit volunteers present.
Each year, employees at DHL are invited to volunteer for a two-week period in their home country. In 2018, over 100,000 employees in the world donated around 400,000 hours to 3000 different projects. In 2019, DHL Express chose to volunteer for Allsvenskan – an unique initiative in Swedish football.
The games selected were Djurgårdens IF against Helsingborgs IF and IFK Göteborg against IK Sirius. Instead of working non-profit, regular staff at the arenas got to see the match and to enjoy a very personal VIP treatment.
“It is our way of saying thank you for all the hard work they put into doing. That is why our DHL Express staff is here today”, says Ann Berglund.
Thank you all volunteers – you truly make a difference!
